History
Shiba Inu originated from Japan. The word nu’ means shrubs woods in Japanese; however, the name Shiba has a less certain origin. This breed may have been named Inu because it was used to hunting small game, like rabbits and birds. The breed has become very popular in Japan, but between the years 1912 to 1926, the breed almost went into extinction. Researchers endeavoured to conserve it, though the Second World War hampered their efforts. However, they found some remnants and went ahead and produced other breeds from them.
General Appearance of Shiba Inu
Shiba Inu are easily recognisable by their distinctive eyes, fox-like face and long tail. Their long fur or hair protects them during winter. When it is sleeping, it curls and covers the sensitive part of its body (like its mouth and eyes) with its hairy tail. The colour of its coat varies; it may be: red, grey, black-tan, sesame and a few instances of white.
An average male weighs approximately 10.5 kg and 8kg for females. Generally, Shiba Inu has a compact, well-built body. An average male height measures between 35 to 43 cm and 33cm to 41 in females.

Shiba Inu is an intelligent puppy. It learns quickly, but you do need to train it from a young age. Sometimes it is rebellious, especially for second owners. It requires a big room to romp because it is very energetic, and can be aggressive if not afforded a reasonable outlet.

Shiba Inu Husky Mix

When you mix these two the results are phenomenal. It weighs around 18 to 30 pounds on average. It is muscular, well compact and has strong, developed bones. Shibu Inu Mix is a crossbreed between Shibu Inu and Jack Russell Terrier, from Britain. It is loving, independent, and intelligent. Jack Russell Terrier, on the other hand, is a little bigger physically that Shiba Inu; and it is also very intelligent with unconditional love for its owner. When you combine these two breeds, you come up with an intelligent, high spirited and strong dog. Its body is well packed with strong bones. The puppy’s character is fascinating – sometimes it is conservative and laid back, while other times it can be very aggressive. A fully matured male weighs between 10 to 15 pounds, and measures 12 to 15 inches across the shoulders, with females being somewhat smaller.
Shiba Inu Mixed with Chow
This breed is the result of cross-breeding between Shiba Inu and Chow Chow. Chow Chow is known for its firmness and lion-like appearance. Both are indigenous breeds. Shiba Inu mixed with chow is known particularly for its stubbornness.
This breed is very aggressive and does not like to play. It is not recommended in homes with little kids or other dogs. A typical Shibu Inu mixed with chow weighs between 35- 30 pounds, and it is 14- 17 inches in height. It is suitable for security and chasing other dogs, but we do not recommend it for first time owners.
